strength in depth pulled them through with a 10 to 5 win. The final round was
against hosts Sovereign in which Pyrford came away
victors by 14 wins to 2

THE PIE MEN
JUST MISS OUT AT BEV PRICE TEAM EVENT
At
the Bev Price team event held in Walsall on Sunday 27th November Pyrford entered one team in the lightweight boys group.
The team was named the Pie Men due to the Judo worlds inability to pronounce Pyrford (Purford)..
usually pronounced as Pieford
or sometimes Prieford !!!!
Shaun Malazarte ..
Patrick Barnes .. Archie Platt all fought
valiantly but finished in 3rd place out of 5 in their 1st round group so
were unable to progress further in what is undoubtedly the toughest team
event in the UK

BAND B
NATIONALS BRONZE FOR ELIZABETH JAMIESON
On
Sunday 16th October in Pyrford had just
2 players competing in the British Championships in the 12 and 13 year old
age band B
Elizabeth
Jamieson
had her first competition at under 48kg (what an
event to try out a new category). Her first contest she was winning until she
was caught with a nice throw and hold down by Lucy Day. In her second contest
she produced a neat turnover to hold Ivela Edwards
for Ippon. This
gave her a semi final match with Kymran Shergill. The match went to time with Shergill
winning by 2 shidos. Elizabeth was pressing hard in
the second half of the contest but was just unable to get the score needed.. coming very close to holding
her opponent down at one time. This gave her the Bronze in her new category. Shergill
went on to throw her opponent in the final for Ippon
in just 10 seconds
Jade Warr had a great start in the +63kg category winning
with a combination of a waza ari
throw and 3 penalties against her opponent Katie Boston. Unfortunately she
was injured in her 2nd contest and was unable to continue in the
competition. Just show a measure of Jades potential ..
Katie Boston went on to take the Silver medal

Here he won his next 3 matches to take a well deserved Bronze
Archie

making it to the medal stages as did Witley Judo
clubs Kieran Masters
